Wind energy has been a cornerstone of India's renewable energy transition and continues to play a critical role in diversifying the country's clean energy portfolio. With strong natural resources, an established manufacturing ecosystem and a mature project development framework, India has emerged as the world's fourth-largest wind energy market.
India's installed wind energy capacity has grown from approximately 21 GW in 2014 to over 55 GW by July 2026, reflecting sustained growth in utility-scale deployment and technological advancement. The country has also developed a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem with capabilities spanning turbines, blades, towers and key components, supporting both domestic demand and export opportunities.
As renewable energy deployment accelerates, the focus is increasingly shifting towards integrated energy solutions. Hybrid projects that combine wind, solar and energy storage are helping improve grid reliability, optimise land utilisation and deliver more consistent renewable power. Government policies supporting wind-solar hybrid projects and transmission infrastructure are enabling greater integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
India is also exploring the next frontier through offshore wind development, unlocking significant untapped potential along its coastline while strengthening long-term energy security.
At BRE Summit 2026, policymakers, developers, manufacturers, investors and technology providers will explore opportunities across onshore wind, offshore wind, hybrid systems, repowering and next-generation renewable energy integration.
