Beyond 300 Gw: Jobs, Manufacturing And A Shared Clean-energy Mission

11 October 2026

Shri Anupam Kumar
Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India

Shri Anupam Kumar framed India’s crossing of more than 300 GW of non-fossil installed capacity as a milestone, but stressed that the next phase can no longer be about capacity addition alone.

He listed storage, transmission, smart grids, green-hydrogen manufacturing, power electronics, digital technologies, recycling and new-energy applications as increasingly important parts of the clean-energy ecosystem.

That shift, he said, means renewable energy is no longer only a power-sector subject; it is now equally about investment, manufacturing, technology, innovation, jobs and skilling.

For Uttar Pradesh, Kumar highlighted the combination of a large market, strong industrial base and human resources, together with programmes such as the Bundelkhand Green Energy Corridor, PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM.

He argued that Uttar Pradesh could become an important national hub across the renewable-energy value chain—from solar manufacturing and batteries to power electronics, green hydrogen, research and startups.

Kumar also placed clearly defined roles around the transition: government creates policy, industry invests, technology brings innovation, finance provides scale, and research connects new solutions to industry.

Linking that domestic opportunity to the “One Sun, One World, One Grid” vision, he said India does not want to remain merely a large renewable-energy market; it wants to be a technology leader, manufacturing hub and trusted global partner.

He extended a specific invitation to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand to bring projects, investment proposals, manufacturing capabilities, startups, innovations, research and technology to BRE Summit 2026.

His desired progression was explicit: from roadshow to Summit, from conversation to collaboration, from collaboration to investment, and from investment to impact.
